What do we do?

The Writing Box offers high quality, engaging, child-specific English support for primary school pupils across London.

Inspired by Miss Pickford’s love for English language and literature, The Writing Box workshops aim to guide children through their first steps as writers, readers and English enthusiasts.

Success in this subject comes from an understanding of structure, a nurturing of confidence, and a familiarity of form, and our passionate teachers are equipped to inspire your children through their english journey, whatever the focus of the workshop may be.

Miss Pickford fell in love with words before anything else in her life. As a tiny tot, this manifested in conversation. She talked and talked, chewing the ears off anyone who would listen, and was often seen walking around talking herself through elaborate stories and worlds that she created in her head. Growing older, this love translated to reading words. And books became her wake up, her go to sleep and her everything in between. She was gobbling them up so quickly that her mum decided to give her mini quizzes at the end of each one, checking the words were not just whizzing past her. Page after page after page allowed her to score an A for English A-level, and receive a first in an English Literature undergraduate at The University of Cape Town. Extensive tutoring over the last ten years, working with a diverse range of needs across a variety of subjects and eventually taking the plunge into becoming a qualified primary school teacher has just propelled her passion even further. Now she’s making it her aim to instill the same enjoyment, confidence and exhilaration that she feels towards the subject, in all the little stars she teaches.

My daughter was suffering from a writer’s block; she showed no motivation in reading or writing since lockdown and struggled to generate her own ideas. Since attending the course, she has turned a milestone and is buzzing with confidence.
